The IELTS Exam Preparation Program is mainly aimed to prepare prospective IELTS candidates for the two modules of the IELTS exam (i.e., Academic & General Training). The program is a comprehensive one which is intended for any participant with any level of language proficiency. It is believed that at the end of the program, participants will be able to get their desired band score at any of the above-mentioned modules for any of the participants’ purposes (immigration, citizenship, study abroad, work permit, etc.). The “RP Writing” course has been designed in three terms. Each term helps language learners develop skills, techniques, and strategies they require to improve their writing skill in English. The “RP Writing” course offers a carefully structured approach that helps students develop writing skills from the most fundamental (sentence writing) levels to more advanced ones (academic essay writing). Over the course of the three terms, students will learn about writing as both a process and product. The main objective of the RP Writing course is to encourage language learners to build a solid foundation for becoming independent writers.

 

The RP Writing course uses a clear, step-by-step approach as it introduces students to the requirements of academic writing in English. Participants of the course will find a wealth of realistic models to guide them become creative, independent writers. The course provides learners with clear explanations of sentence structure and types, paragraph organization, paragraph types, essay organization and types, as well as the mechanics of writing, and what makes a coherent, organized paragraph or essay.

Project Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching practice which encourages language learners to actively and efficiently engage in real-world and personally meaningful projects. It is a popular teaching method which focuses on student-driven projects. Language learners in this type of program complete their projects independently or collaboratively. Afterwards, they share their projects with the other members of the class. In fact. PBL is a ‘learn-by-doing’ program. This way, students become more interested in learning and engaged in activities.

The “Real Life English and Project-Based Learning” program at RPI College is mainly intended to develop language learners’ linguistic skills by engaging them in projects and activities in which they learn the English language by doing. The projects include a wide variety of activities that happen in the community, such as developing a neighborhood watch program, designing summer courses for students, organizing a camping trip to the Rockies, etc. In these projects, language learners get involved in plenty of interaction and communication. They learn by doing: making a request, challenging an idea, presenting and supporting and argument, responding to counter arguments, and many other practical aspects of the language that we have during our daily life at home, school, or work.

 

The “Real Life English and Project-Based Learning” is a program for adult and young adult language learners who are interested in learning English in a more active and engaging way. In this program, learners can learn best by actively engaging in designing and organizing projects. The program has been designed in three proficiency levels: Elementary, Intermediate, and advanced, and each level will be organized in two terms.

The “Real Life English and Project-Based Learning” program is intended to improve language learners’ linguistics skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and micro-skills (pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar). Therefore, Real Life English and Project-Based Learning is a communicative program which improved participants’ language proficiency by involving them in a variety of activities and projects. Like other communicative language courses, such as General English, the Real Life English and Project-Based Learning program has a strong focus on communication skills and is centered on goal and achievement-driven lessons. Besides, the program features a rigorous speaking pedagogy that activates new language and integrates it with intensive four-skills practice and the soft skills needed for various purposes in life including study and work.

Read MoreTEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language)

“TEFL” (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) is a comprehensive program which intends to prepare those who are interested in pursuing teaching as a career in their own countries or abroad. The program focuses on developing skills language teachers need to teach different aspects of the English language, including language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, etc. Besides language skills and micro-skills, other important aspects of language teaching will be addressed as well. These include class management, lesson planning, and curriculum development.

The program will be presented in two courses. The first course (Introduction to TEFL: Theories and Methods) is for those who do not have any background in language teaching. These participants will learn about theories of language learning and teaching, the most common language teaching methods (in terms of principles and techniques), linguistics for language teachers, and English phonetics (and phonology). The second course (TEFL: Techniques and Principles) has been intended for those who have teaching background in languages other than English and would like to pursue a job in teaching English, or they would like to refresh their knowledge and learn about the most recent developments in English language teaching.

Besides, as the number of Arab-speaking immigrants to North America (especially Canada) is increasing, there are many people who would like to learn this language either for communication or for providing services for these immigrants. This program has been designed to meet these people’s needs and interests.

The “Arabic” program is a conversation course for those who are interested in learning colloquial Arabic. The program mainly focuses on the conversational aspects of the language, as it is a language with very different formal and informal features. Therefore, the program is not intended to focus on formal and literary versions of the language, as they are used in religious and literary texts. The program is presented in two conversation courses: Arabic Conversations 1 and Arabic Conversations 2. The program has been designed for adults and young adults who are interested in learning about the Arabic language and culture. The program adopts a communicative methodology which focuses on developing communicative and oral skills. The program guides language learners from Arabic sounds (which are quite different from many other languages in many ways) to more advanced conversations. Besides, participants will learn a large number of vocabulary and grammar used in colloquial Arabic.

The “Persian” program is a communicative one for adults and young adults who are looking for exploring a totally different language. This program takes students from true beginner to more advanced competency during two courses: Elementary Persian and Persian Conversations. The program begins with making language learners familiar with the Persian sound system and alphabets. The Persian alphabets and the writing system are completely different from western languages: writing is from right to left, the vowels are not written in the words, the Persian letters are not in Roman letters, etc. Therefore, it is a big challenge for the learners, which makes learning this language interesting and fun.

The program has a strong focus on communication skills, especially those required for daily interactions. Participants of the program will become familiar with both formal and informal versions of the Persian language; nevertheless, the informal or colloquial version of the language has the highest priority in the program. Therefore, the program features a rigorous speaking pedagogy that activates new language and integrates it with intensive four-skills practice and the soft skills needed for daily interaction with native Persian speakers.
